This is an exmaple of a paper written in a very personalised style which fits with heuristic research. The author narrates her own story around her cultural influences in her becoming a therapist. she mentions the terms ‘cultural translocation’ and ‘cultural osmosis’ which are very relevant and descriptive for my research.Also there is the term of ethnocultural psychotherapy defined as an approach that is acknowledging the centrality of culture and ethnicity in behaviour. Another interesting book…talking about the anthropology of ‘home’ etc . I need to photocopy the chapter (p. 85) titled “Governing distant times and spaces: It’s all Greek to some” (!) as it discusses some very hot debates about notions of mobility, colonisation etc…i see often that in the counselling relationship, the dynamic of who has invaded or who has been invaded instead in the cultural background of both counsellor and client may be echoing some very subtle energies that remain often unconscious…more to write on that!
I have been reading this book which gives an interdisciplinary theoretical perspective to the topic, although the main emphasis is from a sociological point of view.
