A theme that appears to re-occur in my personal and research process is that of ‘liminality’and existing at ‘liminal spaces’. I thought that is worth exploring this concept. I have been reading the book by Murray Stein (2003b) In Midlife. Putnam, CT: Spring Publications. He is a Jungian and used Greek Myth, (the ancient Greek God, Hermes, in particular, as the Messenger and ‘Guide of Souls through Liminality’), He says in Chapter one that:
“the presence, and the role, of the archetypal unconscious within transitional periods is a central theme of this book, and Hermes is a figure who represents this presence” (my emphasis). … Read more »

I picked up the Sage Handbook of Qualitative Research (3rd edition) by Denzin, N., K. and Lincoln, Y., S. (2005) and read the chapter Autoethnography: Making the Personal Political by Stacy Holman Jones. I think it is a powerful text but did tire me out after a while, especially when going into the ‘performance’ bit. I was expecting to fid more abroudn reflexivity and positioning the researcher’s own story into the research, sth that I am exploring in my own study but this paper wasnt written in that sort of way. I came accross this interesting paper (full document here) which gives good formulation of inner-outer journeys (i relate it to the concpet of the immigrant counsellors’ identity etc) and the FIN model (which includes the spiritual dimension!)
